Nelson Piquet Replica Helmet

Nelson Piquet Replica Helmet

This custom painted helmet was a design I hadn’t done before, a Nelson Piquet replica helmet design. It was a custom ski helmet painting layout for Santiago Casanueva Perez, one many custom painted helmets I’ve done for him. This one was special because it was made to look like a Nelson Piquet custom painted helmet. Nelson Piquet was an amazing Formula 1 driver through the 80’s, and this design was based on the helmets he wore around 1987. Santiago wanted a Nelson Piquet replica helmet, but he also wanted it turned into a ski snow custom painted helmet. That means we had to take the look of a racing helmet and turn it into a custom ski – snowboard helmet. It was a fun challenge, and Santi loved how it turned out.

The first step in custom helmet painting is disassembly, prep, picking the right colors and then sponsors for sizing and placement in the custom helmet painting layout, Denim and Barclay. These were sponsors that Nelson Piquet had during his racing years. We had to make sure the logos were placed just right on the ski helmet so that the look still matched the F1 helmets. One fun twist was the color red. Santiago asked for the red parts of the helmet to be changed to neon red. That made it pop even more, especially in the snow. It gave the whole custom painted skiing helmet a bright, modern look while still honoring the classic race helmet style.

Custom helmet airbrushing on a ski helmet is close to the same as painting a custom F1 race helmet. The shape is different, and there’s less room to work with. But that’s what makes helmet painting always changing and a challenge. We had to figure out how to fit everything on there, while still keeping the design clear and sharp. With helmet airbrushing, I could blend the colors smoothly and get the lines just right. Every part of the helmet had to look good, whether you were looking up close or from far away on the slopes.

The base helmet for this one was a high-end Kask snow helmet, made for skiing and snowboarding. A good custom ski helmet needs to be safe and strong, but also stylish. I always make sure to use the best paint and clearcoat so the design lasts, is quality, and looks good over time, even in cold and snowy weather. I treat each airbrushed snow helmet like a piece of art, but also like a helmet someone will really use. It’s important that it looks awesome and holds up during ski trips, falls, and cold days on the mountain.

This Nelson Piquet custom painted helmet design was tricky because the original was made for a full-face custom helmet, and had to be a Nelson Piquet replica helmet that was still recognized, although on a custom painted ski helmet. In the end, it worked really well. The bright colors, the old-school sponsor logos, and the special shape all came together to make something really cool. Santiago was super happy to add it to his growing classic F1 helmet collection.

There’s something really fun about doing custom helmet painting for skiing.  Seeing them on the slopes, and in picutures. It’s not as common as motorcycle or racing helmets, so every custom painted skiing helmet feels unique. A lot of people on the slopes wear plain helmets, but a custom ski – snowboard helmet stands out. It shows off your personality and your style. Another reason why I enjoy the people that ask for custom ski helmet painting and helmet airbrushing—every helmet tells a different story. This one told the story of a racing legend, brought to life again on the snowy slopes, with a bold and colorful twist that Santiago will enjoy every winter.
