Evel Kneivel Replica

This custom painted Evel Kneivel replica helmet was a specific project requested by Dan Brouillard of Port Orchard, WA. Dan is an Evel fan and old school, hard core biker, and has a huge collection of Evel classic memorabilia. He asked me to make a custom Evel Kneivel helmet just like the original. I was super excited to, as  I’ve made lots of Evel Kneivel replica helmets before, but this one was really special, because it was a complicated and precise one for a handful of reasons…

We started with a retro helmet to make it look old-school, just like Evel wore. I had to do a lot of alternative helmet painting to get it right. I filled in the snap holes on the helmet, so it would match the real thing from back in the day. Then I did some helmet airbrushing to make it better than the original which was decals and poorly finished, as they did in the 70’s. This airbrushed helmet had to look just like Evel’s, and that meant using the right colors, stars, and stripes.

The gold leafed “EVEL” on the front was somewhat of a focus. That gold shine made the helmet look super sharp and original. This wasn’t just a regular custom painted helmet—this was an authentic Evel Kneivel helmet style. I wanted Dan’s Evel Kneivel custom helmet to be as close as possible to the real one, but better and cleaner.

I really love custom helmet painting like this because it brings history to life. Evel Kneivel was a hero to many, as myself, fearless.  Huge Balls. His helmet was part of his famous look too of course. When people see a red, white, and blue helmet with stars, they think of Evel. Another reason why I wanted this Evel Kneivel helmet to be near perfection.

Dan was super happy with how the helmet came out. He added it to his collection of Evel memorabilia. He even asked me to paint a retro “Easy Rider” clock and a mini Evel Kneivel clock to go with it all. Those are now in the gallery too. It’s awesome when a fan like Dan loves the work so much. He makes it fun to do what I do.

This custom painted Evel Kneivel helmet looks just like the one Evel wore in many failed jumps we remember him for… With the shiny gold leafing, the bright stripes, and the smooth finish, it really stands out. Use of modern urethanes and clear in the custom helmet airbrushing will make it last much longer than Evel’s original, AND look better actually. This Kneivel helmet is made to show off and enjoy.

People who love custom painted helmets will really like this one. It’s bold, bright, and full of history, as well as being classic and simple. When someone sees Dan’s Evel Kneivel replica helmet, they’ll know it’s something special. It’s not just a helmet—it’s a memory of a time when daredevils flew through the air and made people cheer before they cringe.

I hope one day I get to see Dan’s full collection in person. He has so many cool things, and I’m proud that my work is part of it. Making Evel Kneivel custom painted helmets is always fun, but this one was extra special. It reminds me why I love doing custom helmet painting and helmet airbrushing so much.

So if you see a helmet that looks like Evel’s, with red, white, and blue stars, it might be Dan’s… A true custom painted Evel Kneivel helmet made with care, paint, and lots of heart. Just like Evel would’ve wanted.
