This Willie Nelson – Johnny Cash custom helmet was a fun and meaningful project, blending the legendary musicians Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash into a sleek, one-of-a-kind custom helmet design. The team at Nelson Cash, a creative agency based in Chicago, asked me to create a custom airbrushed street helmet as a centerpiece for their workspace. They wanted a bold tribute to the two country music icons while keeping the style clean, classic, and fitting for their brand.

For the design, we used helmet airbrushing to bring Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash’s famous “bird-flipping” poses to life. Each side of the custom painted street helmet features one of the legendary singers, rendered in stunning black, grey, and white tones. The monochromatic color scheme gave the helmet a timeless, vintage look, while the shading and detail captured the attitude and spirit of these music legends. This custom painted Willie Nelson – Johnny Cash helmet told a story, and I was pumped to paint it, being a Johnny Cash and Willie fan myself.  Always thought those two photos of them would be perfect to paint on something, and then I got the chance!

To tie the design together, we added Nelson Cash’s company logo and slogan on the back of the street bike custom painted helmet. The placement was subtle but effective, blending seamlessly into the overall theme. For a touch of flair, we included some hotrod-style pinstriping in a soft grey and white, tying it all together.

The finishing touch was a matte clear coat, which not only protected the artwork but also gave the custom Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash helmet a unique texture and muted finish. This Also matte clear coat added depth to the black, grey, and white tones, making the details stand out even more. The final effect was striking, but it’s hard to truly capture in photos. Seeing the custom painted motorcycle helmet in person is the only way to appreciate the paintwork.  The camera’s flash doesn’t show the highlights and shadows as they really look in person.
