This Top Gun Iceman helmet was custom painted and airbrushed for Santiago Perez of Southern CA, and it turned out excellent for his skiing ventures. Santiago wanted a custom painted helmet that looked just like the famous Top Gun Iceman helmet from the classic movie. He is a big fan of the film, and he wanted a design that would look awesome while skiing down the mountain. So, we got to work with our best custom helmet painting knowledge and tricks. We made sure this custom painted skiing helmet looked sharp, with a gloss show finish, and a layout like the original movie.

Every time I work on a custom painted Top Gun helmet, as I have done dozens over the years, I go back and watch the original movie again. That way, I can get all the small details of the actual design layout just right. The original helmets in the movie were cheesily done with stickers and tape, but our helmet painting process makes them far superior and perfect in comparison. Using high-end paints from House of Kolor and PPG, and adding layer after layer of clear coat, sanding between each layer to make sure it’s extra smooth and flat to the touch like a mirror show finish. That’s the right way to paint these custom painted helmets, and how I would want my own done.

Santiago’s Top Gun Iceman helmet was painted onto a ski helmet, not a flight helmet like in the movie obviously. So, we had to adjust the design to fit that specific brand and model’s helmet shape, between sizing and proportions. That’s one of the fun challenges of custom ski helmet painting. We want it to look just like the original but still flow with that specific ski, snow, motorcycle, or auto helmet. This is what makes custom helmet airbrushing limitless—I can take a famous design, or anything that you can think up, and make it work on any type of helmet.

We added all the classic featured elements of the Top Gun Iceman replica helmet. The name “ICEMAN”, the bold striping, lightning bolts, and fist logo, in the colors from the movie. Every curve and detail was carefully painted with helmet airbrushing technique to make it super clean. You could call it a Top Gun Iceman helmet replica, but this one is done with much more quality that the original from 45 years ago.

Since this was a custom ski helmet, it had to be built for snow. This airbrushed snow helmet had to handle cold, wet days and still look amazing on the slopes. That’s why we took extra care to seal every layer with strong paint and clear coat.
