RedBull KTM Helmet MotoGP

This RedBull KTM helmet MotoGP, another custom painted helmet was sent to Paul of Los Gatos, California, for a MotoGP event a few years ago. While I don’t remember exactly which MotoGP race Paul wore it, I do remember the project itself. It was another clean, Red Bull KTM helmet design that needed to meet the exact requirements associated with the Red Bull brand and their Euro boyz. When it comes to custom Redbull helmets, keeping the artwork clean and precise is extremely important. Red Bull has specific requirements for how its branding is presented, so this wasn’t a project where the graphics could simply be laid out however they looked good. The design always needs to have the right balance, spacing, proportions, and overall appearance while still having the quality and finish expected from professional custom helmet painting, and what RedBull corporate requires.  Paul wears a Shoei X-15 for this project, which is always a decent canvas for the design. Shoei helmets have always been a favorite for custom helmet painting because of the quality of the shell and the way the shapes and contours lend themselves to detailed paintwork. The X-15’s aerodynamic design allowed the Red Bull KTM graphics to flow naturally across the helmet without fighting the shape.  The design itself was intentionally clean and uncomplicated. Sometimes the most difficult custom painted helmets are the ones that look simple. A complicated design can hide small imperfections beneath layers of graphics and artwork, while a clean design puts every line and transition right out in the open. That was particularly important with this custom painted RedBull helmet. The Red Bull colors and branding needed to remain crisp, recognizable, and consistent throughout the helmet, as always…    The finished layout gives the helmet a sharp MotoGP appearance without adding unnecessary artwork simply for the sake of filling space. The result is a professional custom street bike helmet with a race-inspired look that works extremely well with the Shoei X-15, that looks fast as Fuhn

Projects like this are a good example of how custom helmet painting isn’t always about creating the wildest design possible. Sometimes the objective is precision. Every graphic has to be positioned correctly, every edge needs to be clean, and the overall design needs to look right from every angle, according to the company, exactly like corporate wants it, whether it be Yamaha, Ford, Ferrari McLaren, Monster Energy, RedBull Europe, whomever…

This particular helmet may have had a relatively clean layout, but correctly painting a custom RedBull helmet requires careful preparation, accurate layout, detailed paintwork, and a finish that can hold up to close inspection.   ALL up to specs.   You can always tell the difference.

The finished Shoei X-15 became another unique example of custom painted helmets built specifically for a rider rather than pulled from a standard catalog. It combined Paul’s choice of helmet with the recognizable Red Bull KTM racing identity and the clean presentation required for a professional MotoGP environment.  That’s one of the things I enjoy most about helmet painting. Every project presents a different challenge ENTIRELY… Sometimes it’s extensive graphics and complicated artwork; other times, it’s taking a clean concept and executing every detail as precisely as possible.   For KTM -Paul, the result was a sharp, understated, custom painted helmet that fit the Shoei X-15 perfectly and carried the Red Bull KTM look the way it was intended.
