Oklahoma State Helmet

Another Oklahoma State Helmet, a custom painted helmet executed for a great customer, Mark McNamer of Little Rock, Arkansas. Mark wanted to do something special for his son, so he asked for a custom painted ski helmet as a graduation gift. But not just any helmet—he wanted an Oklahoma State custom helmet that looked just like the team football helmets.  That sounded awesome, and I was excited to get started on this custom helmet painting project, as it was all about football, or at least leaned towards the team theme…

Mark sent in a Giro ski helmet, and we turned it into something sharp and slick. The idea was to make a custom painted OSU replica helmet. He wanted it to have the classic OSU football helmet look. That meant putting the bold orange, black, and white stripes right down the middle, just like the team wears. On one side, we painted the old shcool Oklahoma State University logo, and on the other side, we added the famous Pistol Pete logo.

This custom airbrushed helmet, all paint—no decals like an half-assed county fair project, this custom helmet airbrushing project made the helmet look better than the real thing, only for skiing/snowboarding.

This custom painted snow helmet had to look just right, so we used the school’s orange, black, and white colors. It had to match the OSU football uniforms. On the back of the custom snow ski helmet, Mark requested to add “GO POKES!”

Making sure the finish was close to perfect, I used a PPG Envirobase Clear with many layers and carefully sanded between each one to make it feel perfectly smooth and look like a mirror. The final helmet painting looked clean, glossy, and sharp—just like a real football helmet, only more perfect and snow ready.

This custom painted Oklahoma State helmet wasn’t just fun to paint—it meant a lot to Mark and his son.  This Oklahoma State helmet showed school pride in a big way. This airbrushed OSU themed helmet is one of my favorite kinds of projects. I love working on custom painted helmets that show love for college teams.  Nothing better than popcorn, beer, and college football on a Saturday…

The best part of helmet painting is that every helmet tells a story. This custom painted OSU helmet was more than just a gift—it was a memory, a symbol of hard work, and a celebration of graduation. The colors, logos, and words made this Oklahoma State themed helmet full of energy and fun.  And one of a kind for a son.
