I got the opportunity to do some custom helmet painting for more talent—Shawn Widdicombe and his son Kael. They wanted custom painted helmets that looked like a Steve McQueen spin off. These were custom painted Off-Road helmets, the only KYT’s with an exciting theme— the coolest man on the planet to ever live, Steve McQueen.
Shawn and Kael asked for custom painted Steve McQueen helmets, with their own twist. They didn’t want just a normal copy. They wanted a bright and bold Steve McQueen helmet design, with colors that had a modern spin. Kael is a young and very talented Enduro and EnduroCross Champion.
These bright and bold custom painted MX helmets used helmet airbrushing to add the design. The paint had to look sharp and clean with neon Chartreuse and candy organic green. These colors were sprayed over a shiny Orion Silver base. When the sun hits them, the helmets look deep and play with your brain.
Shawn’s color choice was brilliant. The colors were loud and fun but still classy. The green and yellow combo looked amazing. It made the helmets stand out on the track. These helmets weren’t just for safety—they were made to look awesome too. That’s what MX helmet painting is all about. Wow. That was a Gay-ass chatgpt sentence. The custom helmet airbrushing made every line and stripe look smooth and sharp. I used soft fades and bright edges to make it look sharp and bold. The helmet painting was detailed and took time, but it was totally worth it. The final look was a cool Steve McQueen helmet replica spin off, but with a twist that made it unique just for Shawn and Kael.
Kael’s helmets are pure old school custom painted moto helmets. I really enjoy airbrushed moto helmets like this, with people’s ideas, I get to help make them real. In the end, this custom painted Offroad helmet set looked better than expected. The color combo was genius and popped, the four clear coat layers with color sanding in between coats made it flat andshine, and the whole thing came together like magic. Shawn and Kael were super happy with their new helmets, and so was I.
Custom painted Steve McQueen helmets like these are always a blast. I get to mix racing history with modern design, and give riders something one-of-a-kind.
