Custom Monster Energy Helmet
Monster Energy custom helmet
Another custom Monster Energy Supercross helmet complete—this one was something special. Designed and painted for privateer rider McCale Hicks, this custom painted motocross helmet came together just in time for race day at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium. McCale needed a bold design that matched his team’s colors but still had a personal twist, and that’s exactly what we built for him. From color selection to camo patterns, this was one of those custom painted MX helmets that sticks in your mind long after it’s dropped off…
We started with a brand-new Bell Moto 10 shell—a good one out there to start with for custom painted helmets. From there, it was all about taking the vision and bringing it to life. one color, TRU-BLU House of Kolor pearl, with sections of carbon fiber left exposed, with some K5 Kandy overlay that made it look cool too I guess….Wanna know some AI nonsense in MX helmet painting ?—letting the material do the talking with a touch of paint magic… Boom Nailed it Siri.
Of course, when you’re working on a custom Monster Energy helmet, there’s a non-negotiable: the logos. Monster has their signature placement requirements, and we gave them plenty of bold black easement space for the green claw to shine. That way, it’s not just a cool design—it’s racetrack legal and brand-approved. That balance between style and sponsor is what makes helmet painting for professional Supercross riders such a fun challenge.
McCale also wanted something to stand out—a twist that made the helmet his. He came up with an idea for a muted, off-color camo pattern. It was subtle, but when applied right with expert helmet airbrushing, it gave the whole lid movement and depth. The lines were sharp where they needed to be, and smooth where they needed to flow. The helmet looked fast, even sitting still. That’s what makes airbrushed MX helmets different—when every detail is intentional, the helmet becomes more than safety gear. It becomes identity. And I am sick of proof reading this by now….
Now, performance matters just as much as looks. This wasn’t going to sit on a shelf. This helmet was going to war. That meant high-end urethane paints, careful prep work, and PPG’s best clearcoat—Envirobase for the win. It’s a bit of overkill for most people, but I don’t care. I don’t do shortcuts. I get that stubborn streak from my mom, honestly. I saw it earlier this week building flower boxes for her that no one else will ever see—but they had to be perfect, and she let me ff ing know… Same goes here. It’s how I started, painting custom painted dirt helmets at local MX tracks when I was a teenager. This is in my DNA.
Once it was ready, NASH and I delivered the helmet right to Nissan Stadium. Seeing someone open a fresh custom helmet box in person? That never gets old. McCale cracked the box, took one look at it, and grinned—that kind of moment is why I do this. That custom paint smell still fresh, the clearcoat smooth like glass, colors glowing in the early light… it just hits different. Especially when it’s a Monster Energy Supercross helmet in my Nashville, TN.
Every custom painted helmet tells a story—sometimes about speed, sometimes about comeback, sometimes about a rider’s personality. This one? A mix of all three. McCale’s journey, his style, and his grit were all wrapped up in this design. You could see it from across the stadium, and that’s the whole point of custom helmet painting.
At the end of the day, these custom painted MX helmets, whether they’re built for dirt, street, or display, aren’t just paint jobs. They’re stories sealed under clearcoat. Stories of effort, vision, and a love for riding that doesn’t fade. That’s what makes every project worth it—and what keeps me coming back to the booth, ready to fire up the next one.
