KISS Helmet Painting – Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley

These custom painted helmets were made for a very special event. Done for Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from the rock band KISS. These helmets were part of a private show called “Rock to Change the World.” The show took place in North Orono, Minnesota. These two custom painted flight helmets were created to be given as cool awards for the two rock stars.

John Pohlad from Folds of Honor reached out with a fun idea. He wanted fighter pilot custom painted helmets made just for Gene and Paul. These helmets were part of the “Wingman Awards” to say thank you to the stars for helping others. It was a great idea, and I was super excited to help with this amazing project.

I used Gentex helmets for this design. These helmets are the real deal, used by fighter pilots. They were perfect for custom helmet painting and helmet airbrushing. I spent a lot of time working on the custom airbrushed Gentex helmet designs to make sure they looked awesome. I wanted these custom painted helmets to be bright, bold, and full of rock and roll energy.

The helmets had lots of cool details. There were stars, stripes, eagles, military logos, and special designs that showed strength and style. The colors really popped, and the shine from the clear coat made everything stand out. These were true custom painted fighter pilot helmets.

The concert was a very special event. KISS played a live show at someone’s house. It was a private concert at a beautiful home. I was lucky to be there and see it all happen. The event raised over one million dollars! That money is going to help lots of people around the world.

Folds of Honor and Matter helped put everything together, and Muffy Macmillan, philanthropist and owner of Cargill hosted the entire event at her estate. So many kind and giving people came together to help. I felt proud to be part of it. This is one of the reasons why I love helmet painting so much. It’s not just a job—it’s something that brings people together.

Making these custom painted military helmets reminded me how special it is to create art that means something. These helmets weren’t just for looks. They were a way to say thank you to people helping others. That’s what made this project so great.

The custom airbrushed fighter pilot helmets had strong messages, amazing colors, and powerful style. They were made with care and love, just like all of my custom helmet airbrushing work. Each one had a little piece of heart in it.

Working with people like John Pohlad and helping at events like this makes me feel lucky. These custom painted military flight helmets weren’t just for flying—they were made to honor, to thank, and to celebrate. That’s what makes custom flight helmet art so special.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley loved their custom pilot helmets and thanked me with gratitude.  Gene is one hilarious dude, even though I’m not a fan of their music. But their private concert for about 200 of us lasted around an hour, with pyro technics, fireworks and all.  Whether it’s a fighter pilot custom helmet, a custom airbrushed street helmet, or any other kind of custom painted helmet, I always give it my all.

This event showed me again that making helmets isn’t just painting. It’s about telling a story, helping people, and sharing something special. That’s why I love doing custom painted helmets—every single one has a story behind it.  And this story ended up being a freakin wild one…
