This Day of the Dead Helmet, a custom painted motocross helmet was a difficult project to accomplish in the time frame for Christmas. A mom from Las Vegas, NV, wanted to give her son a truly special Christmas gift, so she asked for a one-of-a-kind custom painted MX helmet that would reflect his personality and interests. The theme was Day of the Dead, which gave me a chance to get super creative with colors, designs, and details. This project took well over 80 hours to complete. From helmet airbrushing all the elements, to pinstriping,  to the clear coat sanding, the process was all about creating something unforgettable.

The base of the helmet started with a bold design featuring bright colors and intricate patterns. Custom helmet painting for a theme like Day of the Dead means adding lots of detail, like sugar skulls, flowers, and vibrant designs that pop. The goal was to make this airbrushed helmet stand out both on and off the track. One of the most exciting parts of this MX helmet painting project was including personal touches that mattered to the family. Tattoos and jewelry designs that were meaningful to the him were carefully airbrushed into the layout. These small details made this helmet special, as Lorie infused theml.   Lorie also asked me to include the family’s dealership logo, which added a cool, personal connection. It was so rewarding to combine all these elements into one design.

Creating custom painted MX helmets like this means paying close attention to every part of the process. From prepping the surface to helmet painting, each step requires patience and skill. For this custom painted dirt helmet, I used high-quality paints and finishes to ensure it would hold up during rides while still looking incredible. The Day of the Dead theme gave me the chance to push the limits of custom helmet airbrushing, and I was able to include intricate patterns and shading that brought the design to life.

The final touches on this offroad custom painted helmet involved layering colors to create depth and adding highlights to make the design shine. When the helmet was finished, I think Lorie was pumped, and her son couldn’t believe how awesome his new custom painted motocross helmet looked. It wasn’t just a helmet—it was a reflection of who he is, with designs that told a story about his life and interests.
