Custom Painted MX helmet

This custom painted MX helmet was made for a very special reason. It was a gift from Michael to his brother Kevin McCarthy. Michael wanted to do something amazing to celebrate Kevin’s motocross career. He asked for a custom painted motocross helmet that would bring back great memories of the races they went to in the 80s and 90s. These were races from the AMA District 13 and District 7 on the East Coast.

Working with Michael on this custom helmet painting was so much fun. He had a lot of cool ideas. He wanted this custom painted memorial helmet to show love for Kevin’s racing career and their time together as brothers at the track. We added a lot of special details to make this one of the most meaningful custom painted helmets I’ve ever done.

The helmet painting included all the right colors to match the TEAM GREEN Kawasaki team Kevin raced for. That bright green and blue really stand out and make the helmet look fast even when it’s sitting still. We also added some old sponsor logos from Kevin’s racing days, just like the ones he used to wear on his gear back then. That made it feel just like the past, brought back to life through helmet airbrushing.

One of the coolest parts of this custom moto helmet was the maps. On each side of the helmet, we painted an East coast map and coast line that show the roads and tracks where Kevin used to practice and race. These maps include highways and towns. The tracks shown include White Oak, Big Berm, Trailways, Aquasco, Sleepy Hollow, Doublin Gap, Englishtown, Rolling Hills, Antietam, and Budd’s Creek. These places were a huge part of Kevin’s racing story, and now they live forever on his dirt bike custom painted helmet.

On the back of the custom painted MX helmet, we painted Kevin’s two championship number plates. We also added a very special picture. It’s a black-and-white mural showing Kevin at the starting line with his dad, Sparky. This made the helmet not just cool, but super meaningful. It turned it into a true memorial custom painted helmet, showing love, memories, and family.

This wasn’t just another custom painted motocross helmet—it was a gift filled with heart. Michael wanted to give something that showed how much those racing years meant.  It made me feel lucky to be the one to do the custom helmet airbrushing for this project.

I kept telling Michael that this was the perfect gift. If someone did a custom painted memorial helmet like this for me, I’d be speechless. It’s just too cool. This kind of gift says, “I remember you, I appreciate you, and I want you to always know that.” That’s what makes this airbrushed motocross helmet one of the best I’ve ever painted.

Every detail was painted by hand—no stickers, no shortcuts. That’s what custom airbrushed motocross helmets are all about. Real art. Real care. Real stories.

This helmet will always remind Kevin of the tracks, the wins, the dirt, and the fun he had. And most of all, it will remind him of the bond he shares with his brother. It was an honor to create this custom painted MX helmet, and I’ll never forget it.
