US Ski Team Helmets – Cooper Puckett

US Ski Team Helmets – Cooper Puckett

These US Ski Team helmets for Cooper Puckett, part of a set of custom US Ski Team helmets for Cooper Puckett, who is a super talented skier on the USA team. When we started the custom helmet painting project, we knew we had to follow exact rules and colors so the helmets matched the team standards. Even though the design had to stay simple, we still wanted each custom painted helmet to look sharp, bright, and strong on the mountains. For this ski custom helmet job, we worked closely with David Baldinger from Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty and Noell Pupel from Creative Outbound. Together, we made sure every part of the helmet painting matched the style, shine, and spirit of the US Ski Team. The helmets needed to be clean and bold so Cooper would look professional when he flew at speed.

Each of these custom painted helmets were custom hand painted, perfect color matching,  with helmet airbrushing. We used high end PPG gloss that looked great under bright sun, snow shadows, and racing lights. The clean white areas and deep blue details made the custom painted skiing helmet easy to see, even when Cooper was going fast. The airbrushed lines stayed simple, but still had that strong style that comes from high-quality custom helmet airbrushing. The gloss finish made each airbrushed snow helmet shine like new ice on the mountain. Many people think simple means easy, but making a ski snow custom painted helmet with team-level precision is actually one of the hardest kinds of helmet painting.  You can see every flaw. Every edge has to be perfect. Every stripe has to sit exactly where the rules say it should. But that is what makes these US Ski helmet builds so rewarding.

When Cooper finally got his custom painted US Ski Team helmet,  I got an email that said, “Thanks Steve! Your helmet made history today! Cooper Puckett had just qualified for the second run in Levi, Finland, in a World Cup slalom race, starting from Bib #69, in his first World Cup race ever.” That message made all of the long hours of sanding, masking, and helmet airbrushing worth it. It is not every day that a custom painted Cooper Puckett helmet gets to be part of such a big moment. It felt amazing knowing a piece of custom ski helmet painting went that fast down a world-class course. Seeing DBcustoms artwork racing on snow at that level is something that never gets old.

These custom US Ski Team helmets were built not just to look good, but to help Cooper feel confident on the mountain. A clean, bright, tough custom painted helmet can make a skier feel ready for anything. When athletes trust their gear, they perform better, and that is part of why I love custom helmet painting so much. When we paint a custom ski/snow helmet, we think about how it will look in wind, snow, and sunlight. We think about how the gloss finish will shine on race day, under the lights, and in video and photos. And we think about how the skier will feel wearing it. All of that goes into the design, even when the layout seems simple.

In the end, these custom painted US Ski Team helmets showed what careful paintwork can do. They were clean, sharp, and fast—just like Cooper Puckett himself. And knowing that a custom painted skiing helmet helped make a little history in Alpine Skiing makes the whole project something I will always remember.
